Step 2 My Job Application

Creating a Profile

Once you find a position of interest and the position is open for application, click on the “Apply” icon, located in the upper right corner. You will be prompted to login to your account and update any relevant information. The job application system will guide you step-by-step through the process. Applications must be filled out completely, and must clearly demonstrate that the minimum qualification requirements are met.

The Writing Part

Do not assume that the HR analyst will pull the information out of your application and pick up the salient points. They will not. Even if there were time for such insight, reviewers/evaluators are not allowed to infer anything.

Hints to follow when writing completing your job application:

  • Read the job bulletin carefully and take notice to the minimum qualifications.
  • Review and highlight identified job duties reflected in the job description.
  • Be specific, be precise and get to the point
  • Use lots of examples
  • State specifically what you have done
  • Do not use acronyms
  • Present yourself in “clear and plain” language
  • Do not borrow language from the position description

Remember, your online application is your first impression, proof read your application for grammar and accuracy.

Step 3 Submit an Application

Completing the Application

View our list of current employment opportunities by performing a job search to find jobs that match your interests. Then click on the job title to view the job posting. To initiate the application process click the “APPLY” tab. The Apply tab is located at the top-right of the posting next next to Job Details. Once you click on the link and log in, you will be prompted to work on the application process steps.

Remember, applications must be filled out completely, and must clearly demonstrate that the Minimum Requirements as listed on the job posting are met. Attachments such as licenses, certificates and transcripts must be attached if required.

You must complete and submit an application in order to be considered for any position. Attaching a resume and including statements such as “see/refer to resume” or “see attached” rather than completing your work history may affect your eligibility or competitive evaluation score. No additional information or modifications to the information provided on your application will be accepted after the filing deadline unless specifically requested by Human Resources.

All information is subject to investigation and verification. Applications must be received no later than the deadline time and date advertised. Applications postmarked on the filing deadline and received after the deadline time and date will not be considered timely. Faxed applications are not accepted. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to immediately notify the Employment Division using the Change of Information Form.

The Examination Process

The examination process may include any combination of the following steps:

  • A written examination of technical knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • An oral examination
  • A performance examination (i.e., typing, equipment operation, agility/physical fitness)
  • An evaluation of application materials for measurement of education, experience and training

Eligible Lists

A list of qualified candidates is established in rank order of scores obtained during the examination process. Candidates’ names will remain on the eligible list for a period of at least six (6) months unless there is a significant change in the examination process. During this six month period you may receive calls from County departments inviting you to interview. Make sure all contact information remains up-to-date.
