An employee may sell back their accrued leave time at the base hourly rate of the employee as hereinafter provided, upon approval of the appointing authority. Check your MOU for details and to determine if you are eligible for this benefit.

NEW! EMACS Self-Service Leave Cash-Out Pre-Designation Module
We are excited to announce that a new Leave Cash-Out Pre-Designation Module has been added to EMACS Self-Service, replacing paper forms, to pre-designate leave hours to cash out in calendar year 2025. To pre-designate to cash out leave time in the calendar year of 2025, please log in at emacsapp.sbcounty.gov.
Note: There are a few exceptions to this new process in which paper forms will still be accepted. Please reference the Leave Cash-Out letter for your bargaining unit for more information.
Important Dates
EMACS Self-Service Leave Cash-Out Pre-Designation Module submissions are due by Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Paper forms submission for those listed in the exceptions are due to your Payroll Specialist by Monday, December 30, 2024.
How it Works
Eligible employees may exercise this option under procedures established by the Director of Human Resources or designee.
In lieu of cash, the employee may designate that part or all of the value of applicable leave time to be sold back to be allocated to a deferred compensation plan.
This benefit only applies to certain bargaining units.
