Earn While You Learn
Our paid internship program is ideal for students, recent graduates from junior colleges, universities, or trade schools, as well as individuals re-entering the workforce. You can acquire temporary work experience by joining our departments as an intern or Extra Help employee.

Internship FAQ
Students enrolled in a junior college, university, trade/vocational school, or who are recent graduates (no more than two years) can be considered.
San Bernardino County is a diverse public service organization with over 40 departments in a variety of fields, such as healthcare, public safety, technology, and much more.
Yes, if your school is listed as one of our Recognized Partner, the department’s Subject Matter Expert will complete your learning institution evaluation sheet. Check if your school is listed: View School List. If your school is not listed, please contact Human Resources at internopportunities@hr.sbcounty.gov.

Students seeking internship opportunities can visit our website at https://link.sbcounty.gov/AcademicInternships.
Internship applications will be sent to the hiring department. The department will contact applicants who closely match the internship opportunity to participate in an interview.
The internship may last up to one year. However, either party can terminate the partnership at any time.
If you are selected to participate in the Career Bridge program, the department will contact you by phone or e-mail. Please make sure your contact information is current in our system.
Paid internship opportunities will list the salary at the top of the internship bulletin. Please refer to the bulletin for details.
Students who complete an internship with the County will develop the necessary skills to help them perform specific duties. We encourage interns to apply to all County positions if they meet the minimum requirements noted in the job bulletin.
Yes, some departments allow students to complete their clinical hours with San Bernardino County. Please e-mail internopportunities@hr.sbcounty.gov to discuss your specific area of specialty.
At this time, all internship opportunities are during County Business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
If transcripts are required, this will be noted in the internship bulletin. Please make sure to read the bulletins in their entirety so nothing is missed.
Yes, we encourage interns to apply for regular County positions if they meet the minimum requirements. Be sure to add your County Internship experience to your application.
Yes, you can still apply for the internship opportunity. Interns should advise their supervisor of their schedule as soon as possible so scheduling can be discussed.
Departments will make every effort to accommodate student’s schedule requests within the County’s normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All internship opportunities are in-person to encourage hands-on learning and face-to-face mentorship.
International students who are currently enrolled in a university may apply to all internship opportunities.
