Deputy Sheriff Trainees with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department begin the path toward a career in law enforcement by participating in a California POST-approved basic training program. Special Districts Maintenance Worker Trainees assist with a variety of duties that help keep water and wastewater systems operating safely and efficiently. Their work may include inspecting system components, recording pump meter readings, monitoring gauges, and helping maintain the operation of storage tanks, wells, lift stations, control valves, booster stations, water mains, sewer lines, and service connections. They may also assist with excavation, pipeline repairs, preventive maintenance, and the operation of specialized field equipment used in utility system maintenance.

This role is field based and may involve outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions throughout San Bernardino County. Employees may travel to remote, desert, or mountainous locations and support emergency response assignments, on-call duties, and other time-sensitive operational needs. The position is well suited for candidates who are comfortable working in active, hands-on environments and who are prepared for the physical demands of field work.
